Why Mindfulness Monday???
Next month I go in for my Annual MRI---every 6 months I get to visit Dana Farber for either my annual mamo or annual MRI. The month leading up to this event is often filled with hesitation, fear, tears when I least expect it and lots of anxiety. I am sure we all have events in our lives like this.....events that come up occasional in our lives that we would prefer to avoid? For me I can physically feel the stress build up in my body. One of the commitments I made myself going through treatment was to start eliminating bad stress in my life----one of the many reasons Leah and I started SaltyGirl and Foundation4Love---we love what we are building here and 90% of the time if is fun and a good stress! :)
Anyway.....I share this because I just applied to be in a research group to evaluate how a meditation and mindfulness practice might assist both mentally but also physically.
So my story is Cancer but I can not emphasis this enough----adding a mindfulness practice to your life can help with so many things----Work stress? Family stress? Life in general? :)
For the next few Monday's I will share with your how my practice is going and also share tips that might help you! And also provide an assignment to get us all started.
I found this quote from Jon Kabat-Zinn, the founder of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at the University of Massachusetts Medical School:
“Meditation is neither shutting things out nor off. It is seeing things clearly, and deliberately positioning yourself differently in relationship to them.”
This week let's focus on Mindful Breathing---dedicate at least one minute each day. Find a peaceful or at least quiet place and breathe and and breathe out--Focus on your breathe and try to make each cycle last 6 seconds!
I would love to hear from you!
I leave you with my favorite quote:
Today is a GREAT day for a GREAT day!
